Arundhati Ghose was India's permanent representative to the UN between July 1995 and November 1997. The distinguished diplomat became a symbol of Indian fortitude when as head of the national delegation at the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva in 1996 she vetoed the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.
