V K Shashikumar has specialised in investigative journalism for over 12 years. He has covered conflicts and wars in Kargil, Sri Lanka, J&K, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Iraq. His investigative reports during the Kargil war in 2000-2001 won him the Gold Medal for investigative journalism at the inaugural 'Brief Media Awards'. The National Foundation for India awarded him the National Media Fellowship, 2004-2005.
